BACKGROUND:
The name came from a small navy of bootleggers called Rum Runners. These men criss-crossed Lake Erie from Canada to the U.S. with an illegal cargo of outlaw whiskey. It was during the American Prohibition and the demand for “decent” booze that enticed the Rum Runners to brave the unpredictable Lake Erie.

They would stack case upon case of Canadian liquor onto their small yet sturdy boats and sail back to Presque Isle Bay. Usually, they were met by armed guards who supervised the transfer to awaiting trucks for delivery. Many of those Rum Runners made port at the numerous, clandestine wharfs of the old East bayfront…perhaps not far from where you sit on the patio.

Rum Runners has a waterfront patio for dining and drinking as well as available boat dockage. It is a great place for everyone from bathing suits to business suits. Come down to enjoy a beautiful sunset and great outdoor entertainment. Make Rum Runners “Your Only Port of Call”!!
