open mic night

by bryanboleratz, posted 25 Feb 2008 11:19 PM

For any of you out there who are looking for a good open mic...

Every Thursday at the Brewerie, from 7:00 to 10:00, there's a great open mic!  It's run by the Nolan brothers, and it's such a great atmosphere.  There are constantly new people joining in, and everyone always receives them very well, regardless of what style, originals or covers, acoustic or electric, etc.

And if you don't play, but just want to check out some great local talent, this is the place to do it!  So come out, and bring your guitar!

your feedback

by bryanboleratz, posted 19 Feb 2008 09:48 PM

So I posted my first attempt at a full band sound...playing all the instruments myself.  Between not normally recording with bass & drums, and not ever actually trying to record them (particularly drums), I'm not sure whether it's something I should keep going with...or if I should just stick to the stripped down, vocals and guitar or piano.

That's where you guys come in--I covet your feedback!  Good, honest feedback.  If someone asks for an opinion, they have to be willing to accept criticisms with the praise.  And I am willing to accept criticisms, just so long as they're constructive.  So, if you have a few minutes...I'd greatly appreciate it if you would give my tune "I Have You" a listen, and send me a quick email with your thoughts on it.  Please keep in mind that I simply record with an old-school analogue 4-track recorder, so I'm very limited.

Thanks in advance to anyone who actually takes me up on this!

Erie's music scene

by bryanboleratz, posted 14 Feb 2008 03:26 PM

So if you've ever ventured out in Erie, I'm sure you've encountered some form of live music.  Erie really does have a great music scene--one of which I'm proud to be a part of!  I'm sick of constantly hearing people tell me there's nothing to do in Erie...that there are no places to play...etc.  True, as far as all-ages goes, THAT is tough to find.  But props to most of the local bars for supporting the local music scene by putting on shows.

A special thank-you to the following venues who have helped me, and/or my band out:

The Brewerie
Billies
Molly Branigans
The Beer Mug
The Dog

I also want to bring to your attention the fact that Erie has a KILLER singer/songwriter // solo musician scene!  If you are able to make it out to an open mic around town, do yourself a favor and go!  This town's got a ton of talent (RockErie music awards people...if you happen to be reading this, I'm shocked that you don't have a category for these guys!  Shame on you).  For fear of leaving someone out, I'm not going to list everyone...but if you want recommendations, contact me, and I'll be glad to give you some links to my friends I'd recommend!  Otherwise, just surf around on this site...or better yet, go out and catch some local tunes!
