background / biography
The Latest: After winning the 2007 First Annual RockErie Award for Favorite Cover Band, the band known as Nerds, Inc promptly changed the name of the band to The Geek Army for legal reasons. Not the most opportune time for a name change - but it was important that it be done promptly - to avoid legal issues after receiving a Cease and Desist letter from a law firm representing a Federal Trademark on the name "The Nerds," for livemusical performances, informing the band of their intention to resolve the matter through the court system. Over and done with - Nerds, Inc is now known as The Geek Army. The Origin: Chunk and Wood bumped into Rockberg and Professor Grimes at a Star Wars convention in the upper northeast. They found they had other interests besides debating whether Captain Kirk or Picard was the better leader... and that common interest was the subtle nuances of music. As though it was a message from above, they set about creating the legendary line-up that was to become Nerds, Inc - now known as The Geek Army - and at the same time created a sound that could only be described as "Nickelback gets into an alley fight with Poison, with Cindy Lauper playing on a boom box in the background." They took their ideas, learned some songs, and perfected their live show through hours and hours of gigs, and that is what they have today. The Big Idea: No matter what anyone says, the live rock and roll experience is about having a good time. From start to finish, that is what The Geek Army does - in fact that is what we strive for. From Erie PA to Chautauqua NY even on through Pittsburgh and Cleveland, The Geek Army has been spreading their message for years now... which is... drink up bitches, it's time for rock and roll!! The Songs: There is not a band out there that is going to play a more wide array of material than The Geek Army. Whatever it is, the latest radio rock hit song, the coolest dance groove, the craziest rock and roll classic or the twangiest country hit, The Geek Army is going to pull it out, dust it off, shine it up and rock it. All done with a sly smile, a wink, and a beer in their hand... Top 40 - Rob Thomas, Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox 20 Rock - Hinder, Nickelback, Metallica, Godsmack, Disturbed, Breaking Benjamin, Seether 80s Hair - Poison, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Quiet Riot, GnR, Whitesnake, Ratt, Bullet Boys 80s Pop - Bryan Adams, Rick Springfield, Tommy Tutone, The Cars, Survivor Dance - Wild Cherry, Ready For The World, Afroman, Ohio Players Country - Garth Brooks, Charlie Daniels Band, Big N Rich, Shania Twain The difference: The Geek Army has always said it, and we'll say it again. This is a band that doesn't take themselves too seriously, but takes their stage show to the highst level possible. The band incudes four talented musicians who are among the best at what they do, but who are able to find the most important thing through it all - the ability to just let loose and enjoy themselves with a crowd of people, and turn the room into a big rock and roll party. One thing you'll always notice at a Geek Army show is this - everyone's smiling!!! The Venues: In 2007, you've seen The Geek Army playing at the 2007 Sherlock's Block Party, The 2007 Annual A.B.A.T.E. Poker Run, the 2007 Discover Presque Isle Days, and during the 2007 Celebrate Erie Festival.
