In Canada, the Trews are big news with gold records, smash singles, and impressive gigs with the Rolling Stones, Robert Plant, and Nickelback. In the U.S., however, the Trews are more like “the who?” minus Pete Townshend. The hard-rocking quartet hasn’t made a push at cracking the U.S. market — until now. With “Den of Thieves,” its bluesy, Southern rock-influenced second CD, Trews are looking southward with a U.S. tour that includes a Saturday show at Cellblock.
Guitarist John Angus MacDonald knows cracking the U.S. won’t be easy.
“It can be frustrating some nights, but for the most part, it’s a rebirth for the band,” said Mac-Donald, whose brother Colin sings lead vocals.
“I’m sort of excited about it. It makes you re-evaluate what you’re doing it for. When you do a sold-out show where people know the words, the job is done already. You know what I mean? But when you’re out in front of a cold audience that’s never heard of you, you’ve got to prove yourself all over again. It lights a fire under you.”
So far, they’re winning over fans, which is n |
